STAMFORD - The man accused of shooting a Stamford police officer in the face last night was arraigned today.

Police say Ephraim Goitom shot Officer Richard Gasperino in the face while he was serving a warrant at a home on Lockwood Avenue.

Officers say it happened during a raid at the house. They say when Gasperino approached the door, the suspect opened fire and a bullet went through the door, striking him in the face.

Authorities say they recovered PCP, a substantial amount of cash and a high-caliber handgun from the home once they completed their search.

Goitom is charged with attempted murder and is being held on $2 million bond.

The Stamford police chief says Officer Gasperino had facial surgery last night and went home today.
