Suspected Bridgeport murderers appear in court

BRIDGEPORT - Two of the four men charged in connection with a fatal stabbing earlier this month appeared in court today.

Police say Shane Smith, 20, was killed during an argument outside Biko's Market on Oct. 1.

Investigators say Jose Lopez III enlisted the help of Brandon Barnes and two others to kill Smith because he had allegedly robbed him during a previous marijuana buy.

While police say it was a revenge killing, Smith's family insists he never stole from his alleged attacker.

Lopez and Barnes are being held on $1 million bond.
