NORWALK - The Stamford bomb squad was called to investigate a suspicious package left behind at a Norwalk business.

Norwalk police say a man walked into Puppies of Westport after 11 a.m., left a cellphone on the counter and walked out.

The store's owner tells News 12 Connecticut the man was wearing makeup that resembled the "The Joker" in Batman comics.

The Stamford Police Bomb Squad took apart the device, which police say turned out to be a cellphone with an external charger.

In the past, Puppies of Westport has been the focus of protesters who say the store purchases dogs from puppy mills.
