Suspicious package, bank robbery shake up Stamford

STAMFORD - Stamford police had a busy Friday dealing with both a suspicious package and a bank robbery.

The package was found on North Street. Police called in the bomb squad and shut down a portion of the street until they determined it was only an abandoned suitcase.

Moments later and only a block away, the New Alliance Bank was robbed by a man police describe as black, mid-40s, stocky build wearing a baseball cap and grey shirt.

The two events, which police say were not related, have shaken up the city of Stamford.

Stamford police are asking that anyone with information about the bank robbery contact them.
