SUV smashes into halfway house; woman arrested

BRIDGEPORT - Horizons Halfway House in Bridgeport is in shambles after a woman allegedly crashed her SUV into the structure early Thursday morning, crumbling the foundation.

Police say 41-year-old Cherise Trotter, of Bridgeport, ran a stop sign and drove into the house. She had also initially left the scene of the accident, according to police.

Trotter has been charged with evading responsibility and failure to obey a stop sign. Repairs on the building are already under way. Police say Trotter and a person standing nearby were injured in the crash.
