FAIRFIELD - Officials say a massive fire destroyed the well-known Swanson's Fish Market on Black Rock Turnpike early Sunday morning.

Fire officials say the flames broke out in the attic of the popular fish market, which has been voted number one in Fairfield County by residents. In addition to destroying the 35-year-old market, the fire also gutted two neighboring restaurants.

Owner Gary Swanson says the damage is great and it may take weeks or months to renovate the store. Swanson says he will temporarily move his business and catering operations to another facility in Bridgeport.
