NORWALK - Twenty-one faculty members from the Old Greenwich School put aside their classroom lessons for an educational experience helping build homes with Habitat for Humanity in Bridgeport Saturday.

Led by second-grade teacher Kathryn Schnaars, who has helped build homes with Habitat for Humanity overseas, the faculty members aided in transforming an old building on Williams Street into 12 new apartments for families in need.

Schnaars says she believes volunteerism and social awareness are two concepts students of all ages should be educated about. She says her students offered her advice before her house-building excursion this weekend.

?One of the kids thought for a second and looked up and said, 'you should practice first with blocks,'? Schnaars says.

The faculty members hope they will set an example for their students and encourage them to volunteer in their communities.
