GREENWICH - Police say a 19-year-old is dead after he lost control of his vehicle and it burst into flames in Greenwich this morning.

Authorities say the teen lost control while driving around a curve on Riversville Road early this morning. They say he crashed into a stone wall of a home and then the vehicle caught fire.

The owner of the home, John Theissen, says incidents like this have occurred several times over the past 30 years that he has lived there.

Theissen said he attempted to save the teen, but all he had was a fire extinguisher, and there was nothing he could do after he managed to put out the fire.

Police say they pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
