BRIDGEPORT - Teenagers in Bridgeport teamed up with the local police department today to help raise awareness of gang violence.Jonathan Simmons says two years ago, he saw a dead body on his way to school. That experience prompted him to form an organization called the Young Adult Police Commissioners, which includes teens who act as liaisons between the community and the police. This morning, Simmons' group and the Bridgeport PD hosted the first ever community gang seminar at the Golden Hill United Methodist Church.Members of the Young Adult Police Commissioners say preventing teens from joining a gang begins at home. Detective Harold Dimbo heads the Young Adult Police Commissioners group. He says the group recruits every October. Those interested in joining can contact the Bridgeport Police Department.
