NORWALK - New Canaan high school students joined police officers Saturday to place anti-underage drinking stickers on bottles and packages in several southwestern Connecticut liquor stores.

The stickers are part of an awareness program, which is aimed at deterring people from purchasing alcohol for minors. The students say the stickers will hopefully grab customers' attention and convince them not to buy alcohol for teens.

"It says 'Hey you, it is illegal to purchase alcohol for minors,' so it's an awareness prevention program," Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, a New Canaan Police youth officer, says.

Ogrinc says April is alcohol awareness month and several programs will be launched to combat underage drinking before prom season.
