Temporary post office opens in New Canaan; could remain for up to a year
NEW CANAAN - The New Canaan post office finally opened its temporary location today.
First Selectman Robert Mallozzi says it been difficult for the postal staff and the community since negotiations for a lease fell through in October 2013. He says the fault lies within the U.S. Postal Service for not having a backup plan.
Residents in New Canaan say they're excited to see the post office find a temporary home.
Postal officials say the lease for this location works on a month-to-month basis, but the post office potentially could be in the new spot for up to a year. Mallozzi says that although parking isn't great, it's better than having customers visit the mobile unit the post office was using.
