STAMFORD - A charity hockey game held in Stamford last week raised funds for a foundation that helps people with spinal injuries.

The Big Assist hockey game benefited the Obie Harrington-Howes Foundation, named after a Darien youth hockey coach. The foundation was started 17 years ago after an accident at the beach left Harrington-Howes paralyzed.

The Big Assist game was started by one of Harrington-Howes' former players, Ryan Shannon. The former NHL player and Darien native says he started the charity game in 2009 in honor of his first hockey coach.

The Obie Harrington-Howes Foundation says last week's game was its most successful one yet and Shannon plans on keeping the tradition going.
