MILFORD - Thieves broke into the Montano Cigarette Candy & Tobacco store early Saturday morning and made off with 15,000 cartons of cigarettes, police say.

Police say that the men climbed onto the roof of the warehouse, found a hatch and took the stairs down into the factory.

"I said I can't believe it," owner Gary Montano says. "I thought that I had a fortress here [with] double walls [and] double alarms."

Police say that the men used a stolen Budget Rental truck to load the stolen merchandise. Montano says that his store took a major hit.

"It's obviously clear whoever is responsible for this did their homework, knew what they were doing or had inside info," officer Vaughn Dumas says.
