Thousands of trout stocked by DEEP in Connecticut for start of trout fishing season

Fisheries biologist Justin Wiggins says this is the first time the DEEP has ever stocked Beaver Pond in New Haven. (4/16/14)

NORWALK - The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says it will have stocked 400,000 trout in more than 2,000 locations in Connecticut by Saturday's opening of trout season.

Many anglers were at Fisherman's World in Norwalk today buying licenses and new hooks in preparation for the big day.

Fisheries biologist Justin Wiggins says this is the first time the DEEP has ever stocked Beaver Pond in New Haven. The move is part of a program to attract city dwellers and families to fishing because research has found that people who take up fishing have a more vested interest in the environment.
