STAMFORD - An 18-month-old is lucky to be alive after a terrifying fall in Stamford.
Rescue crews say the boy fell through the soft ground in a construction site near a storm grate and dropped more than 10 feet.
Witnesses reportedly rushed to the site after seeing the child fall, but were unable to help due to the positioning of the grate.
Fire officials say they made it to the scene quickly enough to control the crowd, safely remove the grate and rescue the boy.
Officials say the boy sustained minor cuts, but he was mostly just scared.
Police say the child was brought to Stamford Hospital and released last night.
