FAIRFIELD - Fairfield police say they are investigating after someone cut down five trees at two separate locations over the past week.

Two of the trees were planted in High Wood Park in honor of Alyssa Karpinski Bergman, whose family says she died of health problems when she was only 38 years old.

Bergman's father says it was heart-wrenching to find all that was left of the trees were two stumps.

Police say they believe the same suspect or suspects also cut down three newly planted trees at Lake Mohegan.
