MONROE - Hundreds of young racers and their supporters were out in Monroe Sunday for a community triathlon in memory of a boy who died in the Sandy Hook shooting.
The family of Chase Kowalski started the organization Race 4 Chase so his love of triathlons could be shared with other children.
Chase was 7 years old when he died in the 2012 shooting. He was 6 when he participated in his first triathlon event.
Sunday's event was a community triathlon that had kids ages 6 through 12 swimming, biking and running a course.
Chase's mother says seeing the massive turnout fills her with pride and appreciation for the many people who have been affected by her son.
Race 4 Chase a free, summer camp program that started in three communities in Connecticut. This year it's expanded to 14 in the state along with one in South Carolina.
