TRUMBULL - A florist in Trumbull took part in a national effort Wednesday to make people smile.

City Line Florist joined with florists across the country for the "Petal it Forward" effort through the Society of American Florists.

Staff members were armed with about 1,000 bouquets and handed them out to strangers. Each recipient got two flowers -- one for themselves to keep and the other for someone else.

According to the Society of American Florists, a study conducted last year found that 88 percent of Americans said giving flowers makes them happy, while 80 percent reported getting flowers made them happy.
