DANBURY - The Connecticut State University System board of trustees has announced a 6 percent tuition hike for next fall.

Gov. M. Jodi Rell has said she is not convinced university administrators looked hard enough for savings. Dr. James Schmotter, president of Western Connecticut State University, says the hike is a necessary hardship.

"Had we had a lower tuition increase, we would have had to look at things like serious cuts in financial aid," says Schmotter.
