Turkish-Americans in CT trying to help quake victims

BRIDGEPORT - In the wake of the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that rocked Turkey yesterday, Turkish-Americans living in southwestern Connecticut say they are trying to check up on family overseas. One such resident, Binnur Izmirli, an employee at Bereket Turkish Restaurant in Bridgeport, says her family is safe, but that the images of her homeland are still disturbing. "People who are in trouble, they have families, too," Izmirli says. "They are worried, so I will share their pain." Izmirli says that when an earthquake hit her homeland in 1999, she helped collect money and supplies to send to the victims. She says she plans on organizing similar relief efforts in the coming days.State working to help after earthquake in Turkey
