EAST HAVEN - U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch was in East Haven Tuesday to meet with city officials and the Latino community.
Lynch, who is the nation's first African-American female attorney general, stopped by East Haven High School, where she attended a private meeting talking about ways to improve relations between police and racial minorities.
East Haven was one of six stops Lynch is making nationwide after the riots in Baltimore and Ferguson, Missouri. Lynch picked East Haven as one of her stops because in 2012, four police officers were indicted for discrimination against Latinos. Now, about half of the town's police force is made up of new officers.
The attorney general called the East Haven Police Department a national model. She and the police chief will appear at the White House in two days.
