STAMFORD - Uber, the car-ride service, began delivering food in Stamford Thursday with its UberEATS app.

UberEATS is working with more than 40 local restaurants to distribute their food with an additional delivery fee of up to $5.

Dan Weiss, a manager at the participating Six Thirteen restaurant, says he hopes to cash-in on Uber's name recognition.

"It's a great opportunity for restaurants to get exposure to potentially new customers," Weiss says.

Some skeptical customers wonder if there's a large enough market for the new app to compete with existing food delivery services like GrubHub and Seamless.

Restaurant workers are more hopeful.

"It's a lot more money for Plan B, you know?" says Alex Veira of the Plan B Burger Bar. "It's good for us."
