MILFORD - The United Way of Milford announced today it's stepping up its efforts to help homeowners in parts of the city devastated by Hurricane Sandy.

The agency says it wants to help folks staring at an extraordinary amount of expenses.

United Way of Milford's president said today that the board of directors voted to add $50,000 to its Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund, primarily to help hard-hit residents pay bills and rent.

Mayor Ben Blake says the city has a couple of recovery workshops coming up, including one Saturday.

The FEMA disaster recovery center is at the Parsons Gymnasium in Milford until Saturday night and then will move to Simon Lake School indefinitely.
