University of Bridgeport battles it out with UMass-Lowell

BRIDGEPORT - Ranked third in the nation, the University of Bridgeport womens soccer team opened the NCAA Division II Tournament on Sunday.

The Purple Knights hosted UMass-Lowell in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Scoreless in the 2nd half, UMass-Lowell's Brittany Russo put a shot through the legs of U.B. goalie Julia Hannson to make it 1-0 for the River Hawks.

U.B. quickly evened the score, and the game went to penalty kicks.

UMass-Lowell won on penalty kicks 3-2. This ended a remarkable season for the Purple Knights, who were undefeated.
