BRIDGEPORT - A vacant house caught fire this morning in Bridgeport, displacing people from nearby homes and cutting power to the area for several hours.

The fire broke out at 880 Hancock Ave. at around 10 a.m. Firefighters say the fire started on the house's second floor and spread quickly. The flames were so hot they melted the siding on the outside of the apartment next door. The fire also spread to the street's power lines, which meant the firefighters had to turn off power for the area. It was restored this afternoon.

One firefighter fell out of a bucket truck while battling the fire, but managed to grab onto a tree. He was helped to safety and was not injured.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
