NORWALK - Vandals knocked over several headstones after breaking into a Norwalk cemetery sometime in the last 10 days, according to city officials.

Norwalk Historical Commission Chairman David Park says the break-in occurred at the Pine Island Cemetery in Lockwood Mathews Park and estimates the damages to be about $5,000. He says a car appears to have been used to destroy the headstones.

The last time the cemetery was vandalized was nearly three years ago, after which the city installed lights to try to deter vandals.
