BRIDGEPORT - A homeless army veteran from Bridgeport thanked News 12 Connecticut Saturday for helping him get housing.

Russell Billingslea, 53, says he lost his full-time job a year and a half ago. He says that while he still works part-time as a school bus driver, he ended up living on the streets.

"It's an emptiness there," he says. "You don't know where you're going to sleep at night, a lot of times you don't know what you're going to eat."

Billingslea says he contacted News 12 Connecticut two months ago and everything changed.

He was put in touch with Joe Kaliko, of the nonprofit group the Needs Clearing House, which worked with the Bridgeport Housing Authority to get Billingslea his own apartment.
