Video emerges of incident involving former Jettie S. Tisdale School Principal Carmen Perez-Dickson

BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport's schools superintendent held a news conference this afternoon to discuss controversial video that emerged today.

Parents sent News 12 Connecticut videos of three incidents allegedly showing former Jettie S. Tisdale School Principal Carmen Perez-Dickson dragging children down school hallways.

Bridgeport Schools Chief Administrative Officer Sandra Kase says Perez-Dickson has been with the district for more than 30 years. Kase says Perez-Dickson should have been fired because of what is shown in the surveillance video.

However, the Board of Education voted to suspend Perez-Dickson for six months without pay following an investigation. It also ruled that she could work as an administrator at another school once her suspension is completed.

Kase says Perez-Dickson will not go back to being principal at Jettie Tisdale, but will go on to a different administrative position within the district.

Some parents of Jettie Tisdale students say they are outraged over the alleged incident.

An attorney for Perez-Dickson released a statement saying that her client maintains that she acted within school policy by using reasonable force when necessary when handling student issues. She also says they plan to investigate how the video, which she calls a confidential record, was released to the media.
