GREENWICH - Greenwich congregants turned out Friday night to pay their respects to the victims of the massacre at a South Carolina church.
They gathered at the First Baptist Church in Greenwich in honor of the nine people slain at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston.
Dylann Storm Roof, 21, was arrested in the crime that left six women and three men dead Wednesday night.
"Tonight we are praying for peace in the memory of victims, and we are affirming life and community," said the Rev. Dr. Thomas L. Nins, who organized the vigil.
Many who came to mourn said they didn't know anyone in the South Carolina church, but still felt personally affected.
