FAIRFIELD - A vigil was held last night for the family of a Fairfield man who police say tried to kill his family before he was shot to death by police.
Officers say they had no choice but to shoot Christopher Andrews after he came at a officer responding to a 911 call to his home.
Police say he has attacked his wife and three children.
His wife Kathleen is in critical condition at Bridgeport Hospital and the 12-year-old son was air lifted to Yale-New Haven.
Two other teenage children were treated at St. Vincent's Medical Center and have been released.
Saint Pius Catholic Church, located near the Andrews home, opened its doors last night for a vigil and rosary service devoted to healing the family.
The State Police Western District Major Crime Squad is helping Fairfield with the investigation.
