BRIDGEPORT - Two volunteer firefighters are being hailed as heroes after they saved a boy from possibly drowning in a creek off the Long Island Sound.

Joseph Fisher, 71, says that all he could do was scream for help as he watched in horror as the boy kept being dragged under by stiff currents.

Volunteer firefighters Tim Keefe and Chris Brenn, both of Southbury, jumped in and held the boy above water. A nearby kayaker came and brought them to shore.

Keefe says that the boy, who he thinks was about 10-12 years old, had swallowed a lot of water before being pulled out. He sat with the boy on the beach, helping him to cough up the water while they waited for help.
