BRIDGEPORT - Volunteers in Bridgeport rolled up their sleeves to give a city school a spring makeover.

More than 200 people helped clean up the area outside Read School. The city's director of public facilities says the project not only improves the look of the school, but it also brings the community together.

“One of the things we're trying to do is develop a community,” said Jorge Garcia. “A large community activity where everyone can come out, get their hands dirty, be part of the process.”

Organizers say a group called the Park City Schools and Community Alliance helped put the clean-up together.

The alliance has also organized clean-ups of other schools around the city.
