WESTPORT - Nearly 100 volunteers spent Christmas morning at the Saugatuck Congregational Church preparing to feed the needy.

The church provided food and company for about 300 people who would otherwise not have a holiday meal this evening.

Volunteer Paula Mikesh said she helped prepare turkeys, hams and potatoes, and that she wants her kids to realize the importance of giving back to the community. "I want my children to learn that you should help other people if you can," she said.

Most of the volunteers said they are not even church members. They said they saw an ad in the local paper and decided to lend a hand.
