NORWALK - Voters in southwestern Connecticut say they have had enough with the negative ads spawned from the U.S. Senate race between Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and former WWE executive Linda McMahon.

Residents told News 12 Connecticut that campaign ads from both the Republican and Democratic candidates are focusing too much on personal attacks and not enough on real issues.

Creative Director for SFA Marketing Adam Kaplan says negative campaign ads can have a negative effect on voters. He says negative ads discourage voters from participating in the political process and it dissuades them from actually voting. The candidates are vying for the seat currently head by Sen. Chris Dodd (D- Conn.).

Voters will head to the polls Nov. 2.
