Waterbury line service restored after bridge collapse

NAUGATUCK - Service has been restored on Metro-North?s Waterbury line after it was suspended this morning due to a bridge collapse.

The Route 63 bridge over the Naugatuck River collapsed at around 7 a.m. Service on the railroad was suspended for seven hours.

The 586-foot bridge, which was closed to traffic, was being repaired with an excavator when a 100-foot section collapsed.

A construction worker was injured in the incident. His condition is unknown.

Police say that the injured worker had told his supervisor about the instability of the bridge only moments before the collapse.
