Weston residents connect with U.S. troops in Afghanistan

WESTON - A group of Weston residents got a unique perspective on the war in Afghanistan by speaking directly to soldiers overseas.

The soldiers, stationed in Kandahar, belong to the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment. Town members say the conversation is part of Weston's effort to support the troops.

Gil Sanborn, who organized the video conference, says the experience helped Weston's residents relate to the men and women putting their lives on the line.

"Those guys are living in tents, being infested with fleas and ticks, and I sit here in my beautiful, little warm environment," one resident said. "I think it's time I show some respect and send things back."

The town's residents have already sent toothpaste and wet wipes, and told the troops today that they've just sent out an 800-pound shipment of candy.
