WESTPORT - The Westport All-Stars won their matchup with Sammamish, Wash. this afternoon in the Little League World Series’ second round.
Westport was up 9-1 at one point in the game, but Washington rallied to bring the score to a competitive 9-7. Westport managed to shut the door on the game in the final inning, finishing it with a two-run lead.
With today's thrilling win under its belt, Westport will be moving on to the winner's bracket finals on Wednesday night.
Back in Westport, All-Stars fans are packing restaurants and bars to root for the Connecticut team that’s representing New England.
Fans erupted across the state as the Westport team brought home the victory, becoming the first team to go 2-0 in the Little League World Series since 1989.
Joe Torre, former Yankees manager and current vice president of Major League Baseball, threw out the first pitch.
