NORWALK - A Westport firefighter say he was honored to have been able to help fight massive wildfires out West.

Robert Yost says he and Michael Kronick got back Wednesday from their two-week deployment in Idaho.

Yost and Kronick were part of a 20-person crew from Connecticut certified to fight wildfires that is listed with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The U.S. Forest Service says the fire the men fought was caused by a lightning strike Aug. 19 and covered 700 acres.

Yost says they worked 16-hour days over the two weeks, but it was worth it.

Kronick has been deployed several times to the Western U.S. for fires, but this marked Yost's first time.
