Westport girl dies after traffic accident in Maine

WESTPORT - A young girl from Westport was killed this morning after a traffic accident in Maine.

According to Maine State Police, 12-year-old Tess Meisel died when the YMCA minivan she was riding in was struck by a tractor-trailer.

YMCA officials say four campers and two staff members were in the van, which was traveling from Acadia National Park to Vermont. They say two of the campers were transported to a local hospital.

According to Westport First Selectman Gordon Joseloff, one of the injured campers, 13-year-old Samantha Galvao, is also from Westport.
