WESTPORT - Firefighters are investigating a small house fire that broke out in Westport early this morning.

The owner of the home on Partrick Road was able to put out the flames in a section of the home that was under construction. Although the home was filled with smoke, the family was able to return to sleep inside shortly after it was ventilated.

The department is commending the family?s fire safety precautions, such as functioning smoke detectors and a fire extinguisher. Without these measures, firefighters believe the small blaze could have been much worse.
