Westport man jumps from window to escape fire

WESTPORT - A Westport man is lucky to be unharmed after he escaped a fire in his home by jumping out a window early this morning.

Fire officials say it happened at around 1 a.m. on Guyer Street.

Officials say Mark Ames woke up to the sound of his smoke detector going off only to find himself trapped in his second-floor bedroom.

Ames jumped out the window and was unhurt. No one else was in the home.

Fire officials say they're still investigating the cause, however they say there may have been a fire in the fireplace of the home earlier in the evening.
