WESTPORT - Friends and family are remembering a young Marine from Westport who was killed in a training accident on Monday.

Lance Cpl. Roger Muchnick, 23, was one of the seven Marines killed when a mortar round exploded at an Army base in Nevada.

Muchnick's family members say the young man enlisted in the Marines in 2009 and had graduated from Staples High School. He was a talented athlete who played both lacrosse and football.

Muchnick was about to go on his third tour in Afghanistan. The family says funeral arrangements are being made.
