Westport officer hit by car during police chase

WESTPORT - An Uncasville man was arraigned in Norwalk today after he allegedly struck a Westport officer during an early morning police chase.

According to officials, 42-year-old Richard O'Dell was spotted in a stolen car at the Merritt Parkway's exit 42 commuter parking lot at around 1:30 a.m. They say they approached O'Dell, who drove off, hitting an officer on the way.

Police say the officer was not injured and that O'Dell then led them on a chase through Westport and Weston.

The chase came to an end in the backyard of a home off Tubbs Spring Drive in Weston. Officials say O'Dell jumped from the car while it was moving and ran into the woods, before officers were able to Taser him and make an arrest.

Police say O'Dell has a lengthy criminal record and was wanted for violating his parole.

He is being held on bond and is due back in court next month.
