WESTPORT - Officials in Westport are warning that emergency resources are being stretched thin after a monthlong spree of unfortunate incidents, including a murder, police chase and multiple large fires.

In the past month, a jeweler was murdered and another man was critically wounded in a shooting. Police also pursued and apprehended a man wanted for murder in Massachusetts and arrested a high school coach for allegedly providing access to pornography to students. In addition, a fire claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman and another fire broke out at Saugatuck Congressional Church.

Westport First Selectman Gordon Joseloff says the laundry list of events is shocking and that he wants residents to feel safe in the community.

He adds that despite the incidents, officials are handling them all very well.
