WESTPORT - Two public meetings have been scheduled to decide the fate of a historic building in Westport.

Located at the corner of Crescent Road and Old Post Road East, the building is currently leased by a store that wants to expand its parking lot. In doing so, town officials say the structure may need to be demolished.

The property is not certified as historic and is not in a designated historic district. But state Rep. Matthew Mandell and Westport Historic District Chairman Randy Henkels say they will defend the building's longevity.

Town officials are encouraging residents to attend the forums, which will be held Tuesday by the Historic District Commission and Thursday by the Planning and Zoning Commission.
