Westport police catch murder suspect after high-speed chase

WESTPORT - Westport police have caught a man accused in a Massachusetts murder after a high-speed chase and pursuing him on foot. Police say the chase occurred on I-95 and local roads when Thomas Gardner, 35, was spotted driving a stolen car in Fairfield. Gardner crashed into an embankment behind the Westport Country Playhouse, from which point he ran from the scene. Gardner has been linked to the murder of a man in Massachusetts, and authorities say he met with the man two days ago and was seen driving his car when the chase started. During the chase, police had urged residents in the area of Compo Road North to stay inside until further notice.
