WESTPORT - A store owner says uneven streets and people driving too fast are contributing to a rise in flat tires in Westport's downtown area.

The owner of Oscar's Deli on Main Street says that over the past four months, he has seen more than 20 people struggle with flat tires on their cars.

He says those flat tires are caused by drivers hitting their tires on the newly installed curbs while quickly parking.

The director of the town's Public Works Department says the new curbs, which are sharper and made of granite, last longer and abide by the state Department of Transportation's standards.

The DPW director says they plan to resurface the roadway in the spring to make the street a little more even to help reduce some of the problems.
