WESTPORT - Volunteers in Westport collected donations today to send to people in New York City who were hit hard by Hurricane Sandy.

Organizers say they asked friends and neighbors for donations via the Internet and that the response was overwhelming. They say food, baby supplies and cleaning supplies were among the items donated.

Volunteers say their donations are being delivered by trucks to Staten Island, but will also be distributed to other hard hit parts of the city.
