NORWALK - This week's "What's Ailing You" looks at the current allergy season hitting Connecticut.

It can be hard to appreciate the recent weather when allergies have many people stuffed up and run-down.

Dr. Mitchell Lester, of Norwalk-based Allergy and Asthma Associates, says he does not recommend just "muddling through."

Dr. Lester says allergy symptoms can lead to fatigue, interfere with your quality of sleep and make it hard to think clearly at work or at school.

"People will get wiped out from their allergies," says Dr. Lester. "Sometimes when their nasal and ocular symptoms aren't bad, they don't realize how their allergies make them feel until you get them better."

Dr. Lester says not to believe the various pollen counts you see online.  Many of those are predictions  and not based on daily measurements of allergens in the air.

Doctors recommend going to an allergist or finding an over-the-counter solution to alleviate allergy symptoms.
