NORWALK - This week's "What's Ailing You" looks at joint replacement surgery.

Some patients who have had a major joint replacement surgery say that the pain subsides and they are able to go back to their busy lives.

Dr. Paul Markey, of Norwalk-based Coastal Orthopedics, says that joint replacement surgery has become more popular because patients are able to more quickly recover. He says those types of surgeries once had patients spending up to a month hospitalized, but now a patient could be home within just two days.

Although patient recovery has sped up after joint replacement surgeries, one man who got the surgery recently says that it's still a major operation with a lot of risks that shouldn't be taken lightly.
